Privacy Policy

Last updated September 2026

This policy describes what Nosh collects and why. It is written to match what the app actually does rather than to cover every hypothetical, and it is kept current with the code.

The short version: Nosh stores your account, the links you share, and the places extracted from them. It never stores the videos themselves, and your personal notes never leave your phone.

Who we are

Nosh is operated by Dirgh Shah, an individual developer, and is the data controller for the information described here. Contact: dirghvshah@gmail.com.

What we collect

Account

Nosh uses Sign in with Apple. We receive and store a stable identifier from Apple, plus the display name you choose and a generated avatar colour. If you use Apple’s “Hide My Email”, we never see your real address. We do not collect your password — Apple handles authentication.

Links you share, and what we take from them

When you share a reel, we store the link and the information needed to analyse it: the caption, the creator’s handle, a thumbnail URL, a transcript of any speech, and the summary and place details our analysis produces (names, addresses, tips, dishes mentioned, opening-hours hints).

We do not store the video. Frames and audio are fetched, read once and discarded — they are never written to disk or retained after analysis.

Because analysis of a given reel is cached and shared, a reel someone else has already analysed is not analysed again. The stored analysis is not linked to who shared it beyond your own saved places.

Location

If you grant location access, it is used on your device only — to centre the map on you and to show how far away a place is. Your location is never sent to our servers. You can decline it and the rest of the app works normally.

Notes and visited marks

Notes you write on a place and whether you have visited it are stored on your device and are never uploaded. This holds even inside a shared map: everyone sees the same places, but only you see what you wrote about them.

Notifications

If you enable notifications, we store an Apple push token so we can tell you when your pins are ready. Turning notifications off in iOS Settings stops this.

Usage

We store a monthly count of reels you have analysed, to enforce the free tier. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

Who else processes your data

To make the app work, limited data is shared with:

  • Anthropic — the caption, transcript and sampled video frames are sent to Claude to extract place names. Not used to train models.
  • Apify — used to fetch the public content of the link you shared.
  • Google Places — place names and cities are sent to find the matching venue, its address, hours and photos.
  • Apple (APNs) — delivers notifications.
  • Railway — hosts our servers and database (United States).

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.

How long we keep it

Account data and saved places are kept until you delete your account. Analysed reel data is cached so the same reel does not need re-analysing. Transient media — video frames and audio — is discarded immediately after analysis.

Deleting your account

Go to Profile → Delete account in the app. This permanently deletes your account, your maps and every place you have saved, and revokes the Sign in with Apple token. It cannot be undone. Places you added to other people’s shared maps remain with those maps.

You can also email us and we will do it for you.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to processing. Email dirghvshah@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Children

Nosh is not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Security

Traffic is encrypted in transit. Session tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain, and refresh tokens are stored on our servers only as hashes. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top and, for significant changes, notify you in the app.
